My research centers on LGBTIQ+ people’s experiences of conflict, crisis, and displacement from both theoretical and empirical perspectives. Theoretically, I am interested in how a focus on queer/trans displacement can complicate and deepen broader understandings of dislocation. Empirically, my work has focused on LGBTIQ+ people in situations of displacement in Latin America. My research has engaged with LGBTIQ+ Venezuelan migrants in Colombian borderlands as well as with LGBTIQ+ Colombian populations in situations of internal displacement. In collaborative projects with these populations, I’m interested in learning how social structures tied to gender, sexuality, class, and migration impact exclusion and vulnerability.
